Which techniques do you use?

I use  a client-centred approach, dependent on the individual client's needs. Cognitive Behaviour Therapy is the gold standard. I also use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, and Psychodynamic Therapy. Mindfulness, relaxation and developing social and communication skills are key parts of therapy.

How long does each therapy session take?

Therapy sessions are 60 minutes in duration.  50 minutes of your session are dedicated to face-to-face therapy. The remaining 10 minutes is used for necessary administration tasks.

How does therapy work with children?

Therapy with children has a more hands-on approach. There are likely to be games, drawing, playdough etc. involved as we talk about tricky situations and big feelings. This is how children learn best. An initial parent intake session is encouraged and then after that it's all about the child. Whether the parent remains in the room depends on the child  and how comfortable they feel separating. Most school age children are used to separating from parents once the environment and therapist become familiar to them.  But don't worry, there is a waiting room right outside the door.

How many sessions will I need?

How long is a piece of string? The answer to this question will differ based on the reason you are seeking therapy, funding, time available and also time you have spent in habits that will benefit from change. Motivation, openness, and  readiness for change are also variable. Therapy is a collaborative process, a therapeutic relationship between client and therapist. This will be regularly reviewed.

Will my faith be understood?

The term spirituality means different things to different people. Vivacity Psychology offers a service to all segments of community and do not prejudice or bias therapy. There is evidence indicating that having a spiritual dimension can bring about positive impacts to mental health. If you are wanting to talk to someone who is on the same faith page as you, Vivienne is open to exploring your concerns within a Christian framework.

Do you bulk bill?

Vivacity Psychology do not bulk bill. If you are accessing a Mental Health Care Plan, you will still be required to pay the gap between full fee ($230) and the Medicare rebate (usually $96.35).

From February 2025, five sessions fortnightly on Friday will be opened up for those who are unable to pay full fee or the gap payment. Current Centrelink Healthcare &/or Pension Card must be viewed to book, as well as referral letter & MHCP from GP, dated within the past 12 months. Sessions will only be available 10.30am, 11.30pm, 1pm, 3pm and 4pm on these days and it will be 'first in - first served'. In the case of late-cancellation of less than 48 hours, the client will be responsible for payment of $96.35, in lieu of the Medicare rebate. If late-cancellation, this session will not be counted in your 6 or 4 session allocation from Medicare.
